Nature first
Teide National Park (5 km of vertical difference from your beach!) is a Mars-scape above the clouds. The Teno massif — Masca, ridge trails, laurel forest — is the wild west on your doorstep. Add the Anaga mountains in the far north-east for ancient laurisilva rainforest.
Culture and towns
La Orotava and La Laguna (UNESCO) for Canarian balconied mansions, Garachico for the prettiest harbour story on the island, Icod for the ancient dragon tree, Candelaria for the basilica of the islands' patron. Mix in guachinches (pop-up wine taverns) in the north if you time the season.
- Alternate big days and beach days — distances are small but roads are slow and scenic.
- Book the Teide cable car online days ahead; mornings are clearest.
- From the studio, do west first (Masca, Teide), then one long north day.
FAQ
Is Tenerife just resorts?
The resorts occupy a few kilometres of coast. 80 % of the island is volcanic wilderness, forest and farmland — that's the Tenerife this guide covers.
What's genuinely overrated?
Man-made attractions you could find anywhere. The island's magic is free and outdoors.
