Best swimming spots in Tenerife — a swimmer's map

For actual swimming (not just dipping): the length of your home bay, La Arena's flag-guarded box, the Garachico pool lanes, Radazul's east-coast deep water, and — the connoisseur's pick — dawn crossings of the Alcalá coves.

Swimming this coast

Mornings deliver pool-flat ocean surprisingly often; the bays give measurable crossings with easy exits. Rule of thirds: swim the first third of energy out, keep two for return and current-surprise. Bright caps exist for a reason — boats share the water near the marina.

Upgrades

The charcos convert swell days into interval sessions. Radazul and Tabaiba (45 min, east) drop to 20 m+ blue right off ladders — the free-diving clubs' home. Ask us about the autumn open-water swims locals organise between the west-coast towns.

FAQ

Is open-water swimming safe here?

With morning timing, flag-respect and shore-parallel lines — yes, wonderfully. The Atlantic punishes only complacency.

Wetsuit needed?

Nov–Apr: shorty-optional for long swims. Summer–autumn: skin is glorious.
