Daily basics
Puerto de Santiago's small supermarkets cover bread, coffee, wine, and beach essentials. Prices are a bit above mainland Spain (island logistics) but far below restaurant prices — breakfast on your balcony costs a euro or two.
The smart shop
Do one bigger run at a Mercadona or Lidl if you have a car, then top up locally. Buy fruit at fruterías — Canarian bananas, papayas, avocados — and fish from the morning stalls when available.
- Carry some cash; the smallest shops may have card minimums.
- Sunday evenings almost everything is shut — shop Saturday.
- Local honey rum (ronmiel) makes a great souvenir.
FAQ
Is tap water drinkable?
Officially treated and safe, but most residents drink bottled — it tastes better. A 6-pack of 1.5 L bottles is inexpensive.
Where's the nearest pharmacy?
In the town centre, a few minutes' walk — ask us for the current nearest on-duty (farmacia de guardia).
