Mount Teide — visiting Spain's highest peak

Teide (3 715 m) is a 45-minute drive from the studio. See it properly: drive the caldera, ride the cable car to 3 555 m, walk Roques de García, and if you can, stay for stars — the summit road is one of Earth's great drives.

The perfect Teide day

Leave by 8:30, up through Santiago del Teide and Chío pines into the caldera. Cable car before the crowds (first cars ~9:00), then the Roques de García loop (1.5 h) among the lava towers. Lunch picnic at Ucanca, exit via Vilaflor for coffee, home for sunset on the balcony.

What the cable car gives you

From La Rambleta (3 555 m) you look across the caldera to Gran Canaria, La Gomera, La Palma and El Hierro on clear days. Two short marked paths lead to viewpoints; the crater itself needs the pre-booked permit. Above 3 500 m you feel the air — take it easy.

FAQ

Is it worth it if clouds cover the coast?

Usually yes — the park sits above the cloud layer more often than not.

Can children ride the cable car?

Yes (small infants aside — verify operator policy); the altitude is generally fine for healthy kids at La Rambleta pace.
