Playa de la Arena — the Blue Flag next door

One kilometre from the studio, Playa de la Arena is the west coast's showcase beach: jet-black fine sand, Blue-Flag services, lifeguards, gentle bathing on normal days and a sunset-facing promenade of restaurants.

Why it's the family default

The sand is genuinely fine (rare for volcanic beaches), the bay faces away from prevailing swell, and everything — pharmacy, ice cream, restaurants — stands within 100 m. The black sand contrasted with turquoise shallows photographs like nowhere else.

Making a day of it

Arrive by 10:30 for front-row sand in season. Lunch options ring the beach square; the promenade north returns you home past the coves, or continue the sunset walk south toward Alcalá. Beach + promenade + dinner = the coast's easiest perfect day.

FAQ

Is it good for children?

The best on this coast: lifeguards, facilities, gradual entry on green-flag days.

How does it compare to southern beaches?

Smaller and blacker than El Duque's golden spread — and more beautiful for it, most guests conclude.
