Tenerife for food lovers — eating the volcano

Volcanic-soil wines (Listán from ungrafted centenarian vines), wrinkled potatoes with two mojos, fish landed at your bay, goat cheeses from Teno's heights, guachinche taverns in the north — Tenerife feeds the curious spectacularly. Your coast supplies the fish; day trips supply the rest.

The canon, located

Papas arrugadas + mojo everywhere (judge places by their mojo). Fresh vieja/cherne grilled at the harbour terraces. Teno Alto's cheese shacks (combine with the ridge hike). Ropa vieja and rabbit in salmorejo at village menus — Santiago del Teide does both honour. Gofio in escaldón form: order once, understand the island's spine.

Liquid Tenerife

Pre-phylloxera vines climb lava terraces into clouds: whites (Listán Blanco) taste of salt and stone, Tacoronte reds chill lightly like the locals do. Bodega visits cluster north (Icod–La Orotava; verify tour times); every supermarket sells the €6 education. Finish sweet: ronmiel honey-rum, or malvasía the Shakespeare-cited classic.

FAQ

Most overrated / underrated?

Over: resort-front paella flags. Under: the humble menú del día, where island grandmothers still supervise standards.

Can I cook the catch at the studio?

The hob handles fish beautifully (the fan less so — balcony-door protocol). Morning stalls at the bay sell what the boats brought; we'll teach the mojo.
